Jack Franks’ Bill Would Stop Pension Double-Dipping

Cole Lauterbach – Illinois Radio Network on April 17th, 2016:

Here’s an example of this practice: The Chicago suburb didn’t want to lose the experience of Police Chief Tim Hayden, but he had a full pension waiting for him. So they let him retire, start collecting his pension then hired him back under a different title. This gave him a total yearly income of more than $240,000.

The Retirement Means Retirement Act would prevent a policeman or firefighter from working for a public employer while collecting a pension.

State Rep. Jack Franks, D-Marengo, said this abuse of the pension system is rampant.

Franks said closing this loophole will put police and fire pensioners on the same level as other public employees. It’s already illegal for them to do this.
